The JOY of LIFE

*An interview?!!! Oh no! I'm not really good with interviews.  What are "they" gonna ask? What should I say?! Can't "they" just give you the questions beforehand so that you can at least make a "script" and not appear to be searching for words?!!! Gosh! I mean, it takes me quite a while to really warm up. I usually start answering the first questions with a word or two, until I become a bit relaxed and start to really loosen up...and then I become really talkative..you'll see what I mean. C'mon, read on!*
(IT: Interview Team)
IT: How are you, Joy?
Joy: Fine...er...I'm fine!  *that's me exerting super extra effort to straighten my crooked, nervous, jittery smile*
IT: So Joy, how's married life?
Joy: It's good. I mean, great! *hoping that I really do sound like it is*
IT: Do you believe in love at first sight?
Joy: Yes..the moment I met him, I knew that he was THE ONE.
IT: And that was when?
Joy: August 26, 1989...at a party. We were actually introduced to each other by a friend. I remember dancing the night away with Laurence. *see, more words...I'm starting to relax now*
IT: Do you and Laurence have a theme song?
"Keep This Love Alive" by Tom Scott is actually our theme song! Whenever I hear this song, it brings back a lot of memories from way back...during our high school days (that's when Laurence and I met and became magka"love team"!), when life was much simpler...through our boyfriend-girlfriend days--it was exciting, romantic and sometimes (I mean, most of the time!) dramatic! We were young then and we probably went on and off for about a zillion times! haha! Now I can laugh about it but back then, it was torture! Despite those days, I honestly never changed my mind about him being THE ONE. So, on we went...off we went...until the zillionth time...that was when we decided to get married (December 1998). We sure have come a long way since the day we met...hmmm...about 20 years ago! Whoah!!! It's only now that I've come to realize that it has been that long!  We now have kids--two boys. Lyle,8 and Luke who'll turn 7 soon. I don't have to tell you how it is when you go through "the process" of having kids. I'm sure all you mommies and daddies know what I mean--It's crazy!...in a nice way, though! Crazily nice! *Oh, I like that term! * We have been surviving, thank God! Really, we thank God for the many, many blessings we have and at the top of our list of "Things To Be Thankful For" is that we have eachother. I mean I ended up with him, and him with me.
*ooops!  now, that was a bunch of words! whew! *
IT: Wow, Joy, that was very interesting!  So, since you've been together for a long time now, is it still romantic? I mean, how do you get to spend quality time with your husband, considering your busy lives?
*I'm thinking ...even IT is coming up with more words now, huh?*
Joy: It's important for married couples to maintain "the connection".  In this current busy world that we have, we may not notice that some things simply slip away.  We're lucky that both of us are easy to please. We truly are happy just being together.  Sometimes we still get to go out on dates (which is rather rare!) but usually, before our sleeping time (which is normally beyond 12mn), we go to our porch, sit and spend time talking about anything--the kids, work, the Bible, high school days, ex-boyfriends/girlfriends, friends, cars, Hello Kitty (the very first ever gift he gave me was a big, red, Hello Kitty pillow ), bicycles (this is this his current thing), shoes and bags (my constant thing! haha!), technology, the internet, art, education, contests...name it! Our "we time" lasts anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the flow of our conversation. Oh, I forgot to mention that this is spent over a huge glass on ice cold coffee which Laurence gladly makes.  It is the best!  Anyway, sometimes, we hit a topic that makes us want to instantly call it a night and go inside...But I noticed that the longest "we times" we have is when we look up at the twinkling stars and talk about our blessings and dreams. There was this time when the sun almost shone on us! Good thing it was a weekend! So, yes, we're people who, most of the time, lack sleep, but we don't really mind! We're happy and that fire--it's still burning!
*end of interview*
